Carrie chose Pattycake right away as the dog she wanted to use. Y

Nashville, Tn -- Even with two number one singles, Carrie Underwood is still considered the baby of her family. Her recording of "Don't Forget to Remember Me" is personal to her whole family, not just to her. Underwood says it's "really hard" for her parents to let go, a process they're still going through.

Local stations need to tune in country

Raymond J. Keating

July 31, 2006

Country music rules! Well, except 'round these here parts.

The Country Music Association points out that country music, with more than 2,000 stations across the nation, ranks as the most popular radio format. But there's been no country radio station on Long Island for five years.

The twang drought on the radio actually has reached a decade in New York City, even though the city rates at or near the top in country album sales each year, according to the association. In fact, New York City and San Francisco are the only major media markets without country radio.

Listeners can tune in to satellite radio for their country fix. In addition, Clear Channel has launched two local HD digital country stations this year: New York Country 103.5 HD2 in the city and Long Island Country 97.5 HD2 on Long Island.

But satellite radio is a subscription service, and HD radios are quite pricey. So most of us spinning the dial on radios at home and in the car miss the country sound.

But what exactly are locals missing? Well, contemporary country ain't your granddaddy's country music. There are still lots of stories about drinking, loving, leaving, crying, fighting and pickups. But there's much more, and styles of country music range widely.

Fortunately, country stars still come our way for live performances, and a sold-out concert by Kenny Chesney, with Carrie Underwood and Dierks Bentley as openers, at Madison Square Garden earlier this month showed off the complete country package.

Underwood, an "American Idol" winner, kicked off with her pleasing pop-country sound. But her hit "Jesus, Take the Wheel" serves as a beautiful example of country music not being ashamed or afraid of touching on God. It's about faith, prayer, second chances and recognizing that "I can't do this on my own."

Carrie Underwood On Teen People Cover

July 28, 2006--Carrie Underwood graces the cover of the September issue of Teen People with the caption, "Carrie Underwood’s Rocky Love Life." X Radio reports that the article says Carrie and her boyfriend of nine months--Chad, a 21-year-old marketing student at the University of Arkansas--recently broke up. The demands of her career proved to be too much. Carrie always said she’d never date anyone in the business, but admits it was tough dating someone who wasn’t.

"I totally see why celebrities date other celebrities now," she says. Carrie also talks about how her heart got broken by a long-time college beau who she dumped because he cheated on her. Some other topics that Carrie discusses include her strict upbringing by religious parents and how she feared the "I’m disappointed in you" speech; why she became a vegetarian, (her friends raised cows to show them, then would eat them, which made Carrie feel "horribly guilty"); and how she has no desire to compete with the pop divas, noting, "I don’t dance. I’m not a tummy show-er?I felt like I fit in the country world, where I didn't have to change." Look for Carrie’s story in the final issue of Teen People that will hit newsstands August 4.

Carrie is #1 on CMT Top 20 Countdown

Don't Forget To Remember Me is #1 on this week's edition of CMT Top 20 Countdown! This is the 2nd #1 on CMT for Carrie!

CarrieNEWS exclusive!

Carrie was shooting the video for Before He Cheats
all night last night (Tuesday) in Downtown Nashville.
A source close to the project told CarrieNEWS that
the video is going to be Carrie's biggest video!
They also said that Carrie looked amazing and was so
wonderful to all her fans who showed up to watch.

It sounds like this is going to be the continuation of
more great things coming from Carrie and the Some
Hearts CD! But, then again, we're really not too
surprised by more great stuff from Carrie, are we?

July 26, 2006--Country music's "Sexy Six" are featured in the latest issue of US Weekly magazine, on newsstands now, and the focus is on how their eating habits come in to play on the road. Sara Evans says she eats really healthy, which means no sweets, no fried foods. "I only eat fish and salad and basically, salad!" she says. "I drink tons of water for my voice. If I want to snack, I'll get yogurt or grapes or a granola bar. I usually just do small little meals." Sara confesses she has been known to allow a drink or two. "I love Michelob Ultra," she admits. "It's just like a loaf of bread in the form of beer."

Martina McBride shares, "My favorite snack would be a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and chocolate milk or peanut butter toast. Anything with peanut butter, actually."

Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles confesses she has "a sweet tooth the size of Connecticut!" She elaborates, "If I'm going to splurge, I'm having chocolate, cheese and wine. Not necessarily in that order, but all together in some way. I'd like a soft cheese, something really stinky on a cracker, and an excellent red and the darkest chocolate I can get."

Carrie Underwood claims she has muster up the willpower to not eat junk food after her shows are over, and says it's hard "because you want to so bad!" Miranda Lambert and LeAnn Rimes are also featured in the article. LeAnn and Jennifer agree that a massage and going for a hike are among their favorite ways to relax.

"I love going to the spa. I love a massage," says Jennifer. "I love to hike. It's kind of like the 'reboot' button for me when you get out in nature."

"I am a spa connoisseur," adds LeAnn. "A massage is a good way to relax because I know no one can get a hold of me. I also love taking long walks and going hiking when it's beautiful weather outside."

As for Sara, she likes to spend downtime with friends in the backyard. "That's my absolute favorite pastime-- to have girlfriends come over, even with their husbands. We all just get together and eat and drink and be normal."

A great Carrie interview from DoSomething.org

I'm posting these again for no other reason than I like these pictures and think Carrie is kewl. LOL! Carrie jokes with the band backstage at the Sunfest festival in West Palm Beach, Florida on May 4, 2006.

Here's a great Carrie interview from DoSomething.org.

As almost everyone on the planet knows, Carrie is a huge animal lover (that
may be an understatement). Carrie does wonderful and positive things with
her increased public presence to help spread the word about worthy causes.
Enjoy the interview!

Do you have a favorite pet?

I don't think I could really choose a favorite pet. The one I've had the longest was my dog named Blondie, and she was a cocker spaniel. I think we either had her for fourteen or fifteen years, and she was a good girl.

What made her so special for you?

I grew up with her. I think I got her when I was about eight and I just had her for so long. We just hung out together; she was my best friend!

How many pets do you have now?

I have three. I have three pets; I have two dogs- or, excuse me, two cats and a dog, ha ha.

What kind?

Actually, all three of my babies were strays. I found Mason, my cat – somebody dumped him at Wal-Mart. My other cat, I found him – I worked at a veterinary clinic, and I was coming home from work. He was sitting there watching the cars go by so, that's how I got him. Molly, my dog, kind of found me and I was a foster parent for her, for the Humane Society and nobody ever claimed her, so I ended up keeping her.

How long have you had them all?

I got all of them when they were pretty young. I've had Mason for about two years. I've had Maxwell for probably about a year and a half. And then Molly I've had for about a year and a half.

Do they come on tour with you at all?

No, unfortunately! My mom and my dad love them so much that they take care of them while I'm going.

What's your favorite thing to do with your pets?

Mason, my oldest cat, is a cuddle-bug, and I think that's kind of rare for kitties, but he'll sleep with you at night and cuddle up to you and sleep under the covers. Maxi's the scaredy-cat, but he likes to cuddle sometimes, too! Molly's a smart dog, so she's fun to play with.

Why do you love animals so much?

I was kind of born this way. I've always, you know, been a lover of animals and I'd stand up for any of them and fight for them and, I don't know, I just love them. They're babies and they need people.

Why do you think it's important for teens to volunteer their time to help animals?

I think people – not just teens, but everybody – could learn so much from spending a few hours at an animal shelter or volunteering at a veterinary clinic or something like that. I mean, you learn how to take care of your animals, you get a greater respect for them, but mostly, you learn how to take care of your own by seeing the way a lot of people don't take care of theirs.

What's the most rewarding thing that you've ever done to help out an animal or a pet owner?

Other than getting my animals – they were strays – off the streets, ha ha, working at the vet clinic was a great way for me, because I did have them, I was a college student and I couldn't let them go hungry. I actually volunteered to work at the vet clinic and they just decided to hire me, so it was a way to pay my vet bills to protect them.

Last question. What would you say to someone who wants to help animals but is too young to actually work at an animal shelter?

I'd say the best way is to just take care of your own, do the best you can, you know? Make sure they always have water – especially when it's hot outside – make sure they're clean, fingernails are trimmed and teeth are clean and stuff like that. Just make sure that they're healthy and happy.

Paisley, Underwood Make Touring Team

Brad Paisley
July 25, 2006, 3:20 PM ET
Katie Hasty, N.Y.
Brad Paisley's third and final leg of his Time Well Wasted tour will be shared with Arista labelmate Carrie Underwood. The run kicks off on Sept. 22 in Birmingham, Ala., and continues through Dec. 8 in Chicago.

Paisley released "Time Well Wasted" in August 2005 and is currently supporting the effort on the road with Eric Church. The set crowned the Top Country Albums chart and entered at No. 2 on The Billboard 200. Fans can weigh in with song requests on Paisley's Web site; he promises to perform the most requested track during the acoustic portion of upcoming shows.

Underwood is on the road with Kenny Chesney through early September and will be performing at a handful of state fairs before embarking on her tour with Paisley.

Review: Slate of country stars shines at Frisco event

By TERESA GUBBINS
SPECIAL TO THE STAR-TELEGRAM

Whether as an homage to hat-loving Kenny or for practicality's sake, Pizza Hut Park in Frisco brimmed with pale straw cowboy hats -- curled up at the sides just so, if you please -- for a sold-out country-pop bill on Saturday starring Kenny Chesney, Pat Green, Dierks Bentley and American Idol winner Carrie Underwood.

The date was part of a hugely successful tour in which headliner Chesney, who is promoting his 2005 CD, The Road and the Radio, draws crowds of up to 50,000.

Chesney made his entrance by dashing rather absurdly through the stadium from the rear down the main aisle of the floor, through a path cleared by yellow caution tape and security guards and roadies, before bolting to the stage.

Though deadlines ruled out seeing his entire performance, his show looked to be a spirited party, as he dove through brisk renditions of Big Star -- the backdrop behind him displaying a slinky silhouette of a gal in cowboy hat and guitar -- Beer in Mexico and No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problems.

As the local boy done good, Green scored the slot immediately preceding Chesney, and people in crowd received him warmly, cheering songs such as Three Days, the title track of his 2001 CD, and Cannonball, the title track of a new CD coming out in August. They didn't even seem to mind his inexplicable cover of Prince's Raspberry Beret.

In any other town, Bentley would have preceded the headliner; his songs of partying and life on the road such as Cab of My Truck and So So Long had an authenticity that set the country rocker apart from the rest of the bill. Opener Carrie Underwood drew an early crowd; she proved to be an eyeful in her cream-colored halter dress, and an earful, too, with her torchy vocals on songs such as Don't Forget to Remember Me.

Country is making itself heard

By Randy Lewis
Times Staff Writer

July 23, 2006

Is pop music losing its thump and picking up a twang?

That's the impression you might get looking over what's been selling, and what hasn't, during the first half of 2006. Hip-hop has been the dominant sound in pop music in recent years, yet only one rap album shows up among the year's Top 10 sellers so far: Atlanta rapper T.I.'s "King," and that comes in at No. 7, having sold just over 1.3 million copies to date.

But three country or country-pop albums have been burning up the cash registers: Rascal Flatts' "Me and My Gang" (No. 2 with sales of 1.7 million), "American Idol" alumna Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts" (No. 5, 1.5 million) and the Dixie Chicks' "Taking the Long Way" (No. 8, just under 1.3 million).

God bless the guitar
There's a whole lot of Christian soul in the songs of today's country music artists.

COPLEY NEWS SERVICE

From the first twangs, God and country music have gone together like fiddles and steel guitars. Hank Williams. Kitty Wells. The Carter Family. The songs were part honky-tonk and part hereafter.

Now, there's another wave of faith-based, Nashville sounds. Whether it's Carrie Underwood's prayerful "Jesus, Take the Wheel" or Brooks & Dunn's nostalgic "Believe," country charts are sounding like Sunday morning.

Carrie Underwood: The Early Years

Here's a story from last year, with some awesome video footage of a Carrie performance from 1997. Clearly impressive and powerful vocals, even when she was just 14.

5NEWS Exclusive July 29, 2005 04:55 AM PDT

VIDEO: Carrie's performance at the Channel 5 Youth Talent Contest

VIDEO: Carrie performs at a Fort Smith festival

FORT SMITH - Carrie Underwood may be America's new Idol, but long before she became a household name, she was a local idol right here in the River Valley.

A native of Checotah, Oklahoma, the young songbird has been entertaining audiences locally since she was just a girl.  Among the venues she's played are the Fort Smith River Fest, the Tontitown Grape Festival, and the annual Bootscooter's Ball.  She has also been the voice of some local TV spots.

Carrie was also a finalist in 5NEWS' very own Youth Talent Contest, our local answer to American Idol.  Although Carrie didn't win, she certainly made an impression.  You can check out her performance in the video clip below.

Carrie told 5NEWS when she was just 14 that she was singing before she could talk, and always knew she wanted to make her living as a singer.  Looks like that dream is finally about to pay off.

Congratulations Carrie, and good luck!  We're proud of you.

WHAT 10,000 FANS NEED TO KNOW FOR TONIGHT'S SHOW AT REDSTONE

If you're heading to the Carrie Underwood concert tonight at the Redstone Arsenal Activity Field - and more than 10,000 of you bought tickets to the sold-out show - here are three tips:

Head out early.

If you have an arsenal decal, enter through gates other than Gate 10.

Each person 16 and older needs a photo ID, and the driver may be asked to show registration and proof of insurance. All cars are subject to a random search.

Underwood, last year's "American Idol," is headlining the 2006 Army Concert that also features Josh Turner and The Lost Trailers. The concert starts at 7:30. People will be allowed on the field starting at 6:30.

"North Alabama and southern Tennessee have really responded to this show," said Adrian Baker, director of marketing for the arsenal's Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, which is putting on the show. "We are excited to have a sold-out show this year because of the support and money it will bring to our soldiers and their families here at Redstone."

Arsenal gates will open at 4 p.m. for concert traffic. Concert-goers without an arsenal decal must enter through Gate 10 at Jordan Lane/Patton Road.

People attending the concert who have an arsenal badge and decal are being asked to use Gates 1, 3 and 9. Concert-goers should bring chairs. No outside food or beverages are allowed; photography is prohibited.

This is the first sellout in the six-year history of the MWR's Army Concert Tours. Last year's show with Montgomery Gentry and Miranda Lambert set the previous record with a crowd of 7,100.

Lassoing the Western look onto an American Idol

'American Idol' Carrie Underwood wears Paso Robles resident Dianne Partington's Western jewelry in Country Music Journal's fashion issue

By Emily Logan

"I go anywhere where there's cowboys and horses," says Dianne Partington.

After raising horses for many years, the Paso Robles resident began creating jewelry as a hobby, never expecting her pieces would be worn by such stars as Carrie Underwood.

Review: Country Thunder

American Idol winner Carrie Underwood gave her all in a 15-song set. Wearing the newest look on country catwalks, Underwood's pinstriped short shorts were paired with high black boots and layered gray tanks. She also added skull-and-crossbones bling to show she's not the goody two-shoes fans may think they know. She opened with "We're Young and Beautiful," a song with lyrics about taking advantage of youth and good looks, both of which she has plenty. Her turn on stage gave her the chance to show off some acoustic guitar playing. Seated on a stool, she did more soulful takes on "Don't Forget to Remember Me" and "Inside Your Heaven." And while Underwood admitted she's no Axl Rose, she did do a cover of Guns N' Roses' "Patience." It was her way of stepping out of the country box, she said.
